The Rainbow Mountains of China are one of the most beautiful natural landscapes one can experience. They are cretaceous sandstones and siltstones that were deposited in China before the Himalayan Mountains were formed. The sand and silt deposited were rich in iron and trace minerals, which provided it with the key ingredient to form the colors we see today. What was once a layered horizontal and flat stratigraphy disrupted by the Indian Plate colliding into the Eurasian Plate approximately a million years ago. Inspired by this profound natural beauty, there comes the rainbow cabinet, which continues the distinct layering and color palette visible in these formations. By passing 5000 volts through the pinewood, Lichtenberg fractals have been created to represent thunder and lightning from above.
